Originally from Europe, mints have spread across the globe to North America, Australia and Japan. Cultivated since ancient times for their medicinal properties, they were found in an Egyptian tomb dating back to the year 1000. Mentha arvensis is a species of mint in the Lamiaceae family. It is an herbaceous plant with a strong aromatic scent, 10 to 60 cm tall, with whorled flowers in the leaf axils. The leaves are oval, pointed and toothed. This perennial flowers from July to September and likes ditches, marshes, and damp meadows.
