Mothercare's micronutrient requirements are increased before, during and after pregnancy.
Vitamins B6, B9 and B12, involved in DNA methylation, as well as zinc, play a fundamental role in cell replication and therefore in the growth of the foetus. Iron, zinc, Magnesium, selenium, manganese and vitamins A, C, D and E play an antioxidant role and could help prevent anaemia, pre-eclampsia and premature delivery. Iodine, here combined with selenium, Vitamins E and C, zinc and iron, helps to maintain the mother's thyroid function and is thought to promote foetal brain development. Magnesium reduces cramps during pregnancy and vitamin B6 helps regulate hormonal activity.
